So, I finally ordered the camera I have been saving up to buy for TWO years, and wouldn’t you know, the next three weekends were cold, rainy, and just nasty in general. I do not like being cold, and I do not like getting rained on, so I have been biding my time for a warm, sunny day to go shooting. Last weekend I finally got it! Katie and Cara were happy to oblige me with a spur-of-the-moment photoshoot, and we found some gorgeous light:

Snow day!

We had a surprise when we woke up Monday morning! Snow! And lots of it. Holly and I hit the back yard early in the day and had a blast. Unfortunately I started feeling sick right after we got in and ended up spending the rest of the day in bed, ugh! Now that I am feeling better I finally had a chance to sift through the dozens of snow photos I took. We just got a new 85mm 1.8 lens for my work camera and this was the perfect time to play around with it.

Here she is saying, “Just throw it all ready!”

Our neighbor’s dog could hear us through the fence and did not appreciate our backyard ruckus! So I hopped up on the fence and snagged a shot of Mr. Grumpy himself. He looks sweet here, but I guarantee you he was pissed! Good thing I didn’t have to get to close with the new 85mm!

Cathy and Ryan

Cathy and Ryan can do more than get dressed up and jump. They are also fabulous models. This was my first time shooting at Rhodes and I loved it!

Ryan takes his modeling very seriously:

After Rhodes, we headed downtown to grab a few more shots before hitting the roof of the Peabody. Of course we couldn’t leave out the Gambler! Isn’t he pretty? That intense look in his eyes? Thank the squirrels of Memphis for that one.

One perfect February Day (okay, I know it's the middle of March, I'm a little behind)

February is usually a pretty nasty month around here, but on the day I met the Franklin family on their gorgeous stretch of land, the weather was PERFECT.

Meet Charlie:

Despite the fact that Latte, the family pet is blurred, this is still one of my favorite family portraits, ever! Everyone just looks so happy! And look, no stiff, posed uncomfortable-ness!

We were even treated to an appearance by the friendly neighborhood horse:

Shiloh

With all of the holiday craziness, I almost forgot about the mini-shoot I caught with my dad’s dog, Shiloh!

We snuck him out during Thanksgiving dinner, and Josh, Holly, & I gave my stepmom a canvas of this shot for Christmas.

I swear I don’t only do doggie shoots! (Though I can’t say I mind them, who wouldn’t want to play with puppies all the time?)

These shots are from a Christmas card/mini-shoot that I did a few weeks ago. Aren’t all three just cute as can be? The puppy was a brand new edition to the family–she’d only been there a week, but seemed to be fitting in just fine :)

Thad did a lot of puppy-kiss avoiding, lol.

Isabelle, on the other hand, didn’t mind the puppy-snuggling. I can’t say I blame her!

Katie

Boy, am I behind on my posting. Things have been BUSY over here! The good kind of busy, but still! I have finally gotten a moment to catch my breath and post some photos from one of last month’s sessions.

Katie (the person) and I met Katie (the dog) and her dad on a cold (COLD) day in Memphis.

Of course we had to try my leaf trick again. We got better results this time:

One thing I loved about this shoot is you can really see the bond between Katie and her owner. Katie (the person) and I were whistling, shuffling our feet, and doing pretty much anything to get Katie (the dog) to look our way, but she kept her eyes on him the whole time.

The bluff overlooking the Mississippi River was an awesome location. I love seeing the familiar landmarks that any Memphian would recognize in the background. You can see the Pyramid in the above photo, and here you can see the Memphis “M” bridge. (It’s officially the Hernando de Soto Bridge.)

That is the “Old Bridge” (Memphis & Arkansas Bridge) behind Katie. Apparently there are foxes that live on the bluff–I think she might have heard one of them.

Pippen

I am such a sucker for puppies, and this session was no exception. Behold the cuteness of Pippen, the Golden Doodle!

Doesn’t he just look like a soft little teddy bear?

Pippen’s mom and dad were total troopers, because it was COLD and windy, and the breeze off of the Mississippi river is not kind!

Aren’t Sam and Lea a cute couple? Even without the Golden Doodle :)

So I had this grand idea that we would gather up a bunch of leaves and toss them for an adorable shot of Pippen amongst gently falling leaves. Well, as I mentioned, it was SUPER windy that day, and instead of fluttering softly to the ground, the leaves kind of, well, PUMMELED poor Pippen. His reaction? Cowering adorably, and then unleashing the cutest leaf attack I’ve ever seen:

Aren’t those fluffy ragdoll legs just TOO much? Awwww!
